Skylarking, XTC's ninth album, originally released in 1986, is widely considered one of the band’s finest works. Produced by Todd Rundgren, it explores life’s cycles while blending 1960s influences with Rundgren’s orchestral arrangements and programming. Despite the tensions between Rundgren and bandleader Andy Partridge, Skylarking became a cornerstone of XTC’s career.
Initially overlooked in the UK, the album gained traction in the US when "Dear God," originally left off the album, became a college radio hit and sparked controversy, even leading to a bomb threat. This success led to a reissue, solidifying Skylarking’s reputation as a classic. Over the years, it has appeared on multiple "Best of the 1980s" lists.
In 2016, Steven Wilson remixed Skylarking, reviving it with new stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound editions, which delighted both longtime fans and a new generation. However, that remix never made it to vinyl—until now. This release marks the first time Wilson’s remix is available on vinyl, further enhancing the timeless appeal of this masterpiece. This newly released reissue features a new Dolby Atmos mix.
Released on 200g heavyweight vinyl via Ape House in 2024.
