In September 2020, Taylor Swift, along with her co-producers Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff, gathered at Long Pond Studio, a remote, rustic cabin in upstate New York, to play their eighth studio album in its entirety for the first time. This was after they had written, recorded, and produced the album in isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their session resulted in the concert documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, where they performed stripped-down, acoustic versions of all 17 tracks in sequence. The film also delves into the creative process, stories, and inspirations behind the album through discussions.
On Disney+, the film is described as: "Taylor Swift presents an intimate concert experience, performing every song from her best-selling album Folklore. Joined by co-producers Aaron Dessner (The National) and Jack Antonoff (Bleachers), and featuring a guest appearance by Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Taylor recorded the event at the historic Long Pond Studios in upstate New York. This setting complements the album's nostalgic and wistful tone. Throughout the performance, Taylor and her collaborators explore the creation and significance of each song, sharing insights into the challenges and triumphs of producing the album remotely."
For Record Store Day 2023, a limited edition run of 115,000 vinyl LPs of the album was made available exclusively through independent record stores worldwide, selling out within three days. The album achieved the top spot on the US Billboard Soundtracks, Vinyl Albums, Top Alternative Albums, Top Rock & Alternative Albums, and Tastemaker Albums charts. It also made history as the first Record Store Day-exclusive to break into the top 10 of the overall Billboard 200 chart, reaching number three.
