The 75th album by Country and Western Legend Willie Nelson The Border contains original material and covers. The four original songs were all written by Nelson and long-time producer Buddy Cannon.

Nelson and Cannon have a well-established formula for writing songs in the 21st century where most of the initial songwriting is done over text. The four songs are some of the most nuanced songs about grief that the now 91-year-old Nelson has ever produced.

The album's six covers include songs from Mike Reid, Shawn Camp, Rodney Crowell and Allen Shamblin. Released through Legacy Recordings.

The album's release was preceded by only one promotional single the title track "The Border".
