Hurry Up Tomorrow could be the last Weeknd record. Hurry up and pre-order your copy today!
Toronto future-R&B sensation the Weeknd is threatening to retire -- or at least retire the name the Weeknd and carry on under his own name, Abel Tesfaye -- after the release of his sixth full-length album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, on Jan. 31.
We'll see how that goes. You know pop stars and their "retirements." In any case, though, Hurry Up Tomorrow is apparently the conclusion of a trilogy that, unbeknownst to all of us, began with 2020's After Hours and carried on through 2022's Dawn FM -- in much the same way that the Weeknd's original volley of 2011 online EPs House Of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes Of Silence was itself a trilogy.
Hurry Up Tomorrow -- to be followed by a cinematic thriller of the same name in May based on the record -- "is probably my last hurrah as the Weeknd," Tesfaye told W magazine recently. "This is something that I have to do. As the Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say. I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as the Weeknd. But I still want to kill the Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”
