(Mint & White) Underoath's fourth album pushes through as a watershed moment for metal/punk music. The bands combination of influences from heavy metal, scremo, post-hardcore and melodic hardcore gave rise to a sound that defined heavy music in the 2000's
The fourth album by Christian metalcore band Underoath They're Only Chasing Safety arrived after a turbulent time for the band. After the release of the band's 2002 album poignantly titled "The Changing Of Times" bassist William Nottke and vocalist Dallas Taylor left the band. Bass duties were taken up by Grant Brandell, This Runs Through vocalist Spencer Chamberlain was asked to join the band and additional guitarist James Smith was brought into the fold.
A month after vocalist Spencer Chamberlain joined the band they started recording They're Only Chasing Safety with producer James Paul Wisner at Wisner Studios in Florida. The album melds the sub-genres of screamo, post-hardcore and melodic hardcore together. To create a sound that is significantly gentler than traditional metalcore. The album's lyrical content has fewer references to Christianity than any of Underoath's previous albums or contemporaries.
This 2024 reissue on mint and white vinyl is released through Many Hats Distribution.
