"Africa" by American rock band Toto, serves as the tenth and final track on their fourth studio album, Toto IV (1982). Released as the album’s second single in Europe in June 1982, and as the third single in the U.S. in October 1982, it was distributed by Columbia Records. Written by band members David Paich and Jeff Porcaro, the song was produced by Toto and mixed by Grammy-winning engineer Elliot Scheiner.
Critics praised the song's intricate composition and smooth production, and the song continues to garner acclaim. Rolling Stone placed it at number 492 on their list of the 500 greatest songs of all time. Although popular in the 1980s and 1990s, earning a Gold certification from the RIAA in 1991, "Africa" experienced a resurgence in the mid- to late 2010s thanks to social media, inspiring numerous internet memes. This renewed interest led to a fan-requested cover by the American rock band Weezer, which peaked at number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has since been certified Diamond and is now regarded as one of the best-selling songs of all time.
This limited edition 2017 Record Store Day 12" single also includes the hit single Rosanna as a b-side.
