Thee Sacred Souls' second album explores love, loss, and growth, blending 60s and 70s soul influences with modern production and personal storytelling.
Thee Sacred Souls’ Got A Story To Tell (Daptone Records), the highly anticipated follow-up to the band's breakout debut, marks a significant evolution for the young San Diego band. The album’s 12 tracks showcase refined craftsmanship born from two years of extensive touring across North America and Europe. Through life on the road, drummer Alejandro Garcia, bassist Salvador Samano, and vocalist Josh Lane forged a deeper, familial bond.
With influences ranging from rocksteady to ‘60s girl group pop, the album explores universal themes of love and loss while delving into each band member's journey. Lead single “Lucid Girl” champions independent spirit and free-thinking, pairing Garcia’s heart-wrenching instrumental with Lane’s lyrics about a woman who grows through self-empowerment. In “My Heart Is Drowning", the slow tempo and haunting vocals evoke heartbreak and regret, while the rhythmic shifts in “On My Mind” capture life’s complexity, inspired by Brazilian artist Arthur Verocai.
Recorded at Penrose Recorders with Daptone co-founder Gabriel Roth, Got A Story To Tell is steeped in the timeless sounds of Motown, Jamaican rocksteady, and classic R&B, blending immortal grooves and sincere lyrics. A celebration of music history, the album draws from the Delfonics, Alton Ellis. Thee Sacred Souls craft an emotional arc for listeners, concluding with the feel-good “I’m So Glad I Found You, Baby” a warm return to love and home. After two years of growth and challenge, Got A Story To Tell captures grooves and feelings rarely recorded on wax in the 21st century.
Released via Daptone Records in 2024.
