*The Tortured Poets Department* is Taylor Swift’s eleventh studio album, released on April 19, 2024, through Republic Records. Shortly after its initial release, the album was expanded into a double album titled *The Anthology*, adding a second volume of songs.

Swift began working on *The Tortured Poets Department* soon after completing her tenth album, *Midnights* (2022), continuing its development during the Eras Tour in 2023. The project emerged as a crucial songwriting endeavor amidst the surge in fame and media attention from the tour. The album explores both her public and private experiences, expressing themes of self-awareness, mourning, anger, humor, and delusion. Produced by Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, it features a minimalist blend of synth-pop, folk-pop, chamber pop, with elements of rock and country. The music is predominantly mid-tempo, characterized by synthesizers, drum machines, piano, and guitar, while the visual style is inspired by dark academia.

The album set several sales and streaming records, achieving the highest single-day and single-week streams on Spotify, and topping charts across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas. In the United States, it debuted with 2.6 million album-equivalent units, including 1.9 million pure sales, marking Swift’s highest sales week and her seventh album to surpass a million units in its debut. It topped the Billboard 200 for a record 12 consecutive weeks and made Swift the only artist to occupy the top 14 positions on the Billboard Hot 100, with the single "Fortnight" at number one.

Critics were divided upon release. Most reviews praised Swift’s cathartic songwriting for its emotional depth and wit, though some criticized the album for being too lengthy and lacking depth. Later reviews recognized the album’s musical and lyrical subtleties, challenging initial critiques that focused more on Swift's public persona than her artistic achievements. Swift has included tracks from the album in the updated set list of her Eras Tour, starting in May 2024.

The "Ghosted White Vinyl" contains the bonus track "Manuscript"
