The 2024 remaster of Talk Talk's wildly successful second album features a half-speed remaster by Matt Colton at Metropolis Studios, overseen by drummer Lee Harris and Mark Hollis' son, Charlie Hollis.
Talk Talk, formed in 1981 in London, originally started as a synth-pop band, led by vocalist and songwriter Mark Hollis, alongside drummer Lee Harris, bassist Paul Webb, and keyboardist Simon Brenner. Initially compared to bands like Duran Duran due to their early use of synthesizers and glossy production, Talk Talk quickly distinguished themselves with a more introspective and experimental sound. Their debut album, The Party's Over (1982), achieved moderate success, but it was with their second album, It's My Life (1984), that they gained wider recognition, especially in Europe, thanks to hits like the title track and "Such a Shame".
It's My Life, Talk Talk's second studio album marked a significant step forward for the band’s evolving sound. Widely praised for its atmospheric synth-pop and introspective lyrics, the album became a top 5 hit in several European countries and solidified Talk Talk's presence in the 1980s music scene.
As the band progressed, Talk Talk moved away from the commercial synth-pop of their early years, driven by Hollis and producer Tim Friese-Greene, who joined during the recording of It's My Life. Together, they shifted the band towards a more organic, experimental style, culminating in albums like The Colour of Spring (1986) and the critically acclaimed Spirit of Eden (1988), which blended jazz, classical, and ambient music. Talk Talk’s later work laid the foundation for the post-rock genre and earned the band a lasting legacy as pioneers of atmospheric and avant-garde music.
2024 20th-anniversary reissue pressed on heavyweight vinyl includes a half-speed remaster of all the album's tracks by Matt Colton at Metropolis Studios, supervised by Talk Talk drummer Lee Harris and Mark Hollis' son, Charlie Hollis.
