The "old" Taylor Swift is still very much present on Red, her fourth album, but you can hear her getting restless with her rootsy country-lite beginnings and taking strides towards pure pop.

This self-described breakup record is, thus, also a transitional album, mingling more traditional Taylor fare recorded with formative producer Nathan Chapman and a healthy obsession with Joni Mitchell's Blue -- the title Red is likely no accident, nor is the decidedly Blue-esque cover art -- with high-end pop tunes like "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and "I Knew You Were Trouble" recorded with a Who's Who of A-list hitmakers such as Max Martin, Shellback, Butch Walker and Jacknife Lee. The public was along for the ride, pushing Red to the top of the sharts in numerous countries, but critics were also generally quite smitten with Swift's transformation into an "adult pop" artist. As we all know, there was no lookin' back after this one. The rise of Pop Taylor was upon us.
