Taylor Swift was just 20 when Fearless was released and sent the singles "You Belong With Me" and "Love Story" rocketing up the pop charts.
Taylor Swift's second album, 2008's Fearless, was written and recorded as the young singer/songwriter transitioned from her teenage years into her early 20s and ... well ... it sounds like it. That, however, is also the secret to Swift's success: she caught the pop zeitgeist early on by churning out relatable country-pop ditties heavy on adolescent angst and undiluted broken-heartedness and has managed to hang onto her original fans -- and add to them in droves -- by growing up alongside them. And on Fearless, in particular, she decided specifically to write from the perspective of a teenage girl bruised by bad boyfriends and ill-fated romance.
"I really try to write more about what I feel and guys and love because that's what fascinates me more than anything else – love and what it does to us and how we treat people and how they treat us," she said in an interview at the time. "So pretty much every song on the album has a face that I associate with it."
The approach wasn't a bad idea. Fearless was a No. 1 hit in the U.S. upon release and spent 11 weeks at the top of the Billboard album chart, eventually winning both Country Album of the Year and Album of the Year at the 2010 Grammy Awards. It's since sold more than 12 million copies worldwide and was an important first step towards the global mega-stardom Swift enjoys today. Interestingly, Fearless was also the first album she picked to tackle in her ongoing series of "Taylor's Version" remakes of her own albums.
