Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025, Expansions has become one of the most influential samples in dance music history. This standout single is paired with the B-side Cosmic Funk, the title track from Smith's groundbreaking spiritual jazz-funk album.

Renowned for his pioneering work in jazz fusion, soul, and funk, Lonnie Liston Smith emerged in the 1970s, blending spiritual jazz with cosmic and electronic elements in seminal albums like Expansions and Astral Traveling. His innovative use of electric piano and synthesizers, combined with a deep sense of groove, has solidified his role as a key figure in the evolution of jazz.
