(2LP) American alt-rock pioneers The Smashing Pumpkins' third and most commercially successful compilation album returns to vinyl. The album captures the band's most iconic tracks alongside rarities like their final recording "Untitled".
Rotten Apples Greatest Hits is a comprehensive collection of American rockband The Smashing Pumpkins' most essential tracks, spanning their career from their early breakthrough in the 1990s to their final recordings before their initial breakup in 2000. Released on November 20, 2001, the compilation captures the evolution of their alt-rock sound, featuring fan favourites like "1979," "Tonight, Tonight," and "Bullet with Butterfly Wings," alongside deeper cuts like "Landslide" and the previously unreleased final track, "Untitled," recorded just days before the band's farewell concert in Chicago.
Critically, the album was well-received for authentically representing the breadth of the band's career. Dan Tallis of BBC praised the compilation as a rare Greatest Hits album that truly justified its title. While Judas O catered more to Pumpkin enthusiasts, Rotten Apples stands as a definitive testament to the band's legacy in alternative rock. The compilation peaked at number 31 on the US charts, selling 77,000 copies in its first week, cementing its place as a must-have for Smashing Pumpkins fans.
2024 reissue on two premium black vinyl, released via Universal Music Enterprises.
