(Translucent red marbled vinyl) Slowdive’s debut album fuses lush dream pop textures, ethereal vocals and harsh guitar noise to create immersive shoegaze dreamscapes.
The debut album from English Shoe-gaze pioneers Slowdive Just for a Day masterfully blends dreamy textures and introspective lyrics, offering a perfect escape into a world of sonic beauty and emotional depth.
The term "shoegazer" was used to describe bands that emulated My Bloody Valentine's blend of intense guitars and ethereal vocals. Slowdive toured with fellow shoegazing bands throughout the summer of 1991, but as Britpop and grunge emerged, the British music press grew increasingly critical of shoegaze.
Production on Slowdive's debut began after Neil Halstead persuaded Creation Records head Alan McGee that the band had enough material for an album, though this was not entirely accurate. The group quickly wrote new songs in the studio, experimenting with sounds. Halstead drew lyrical inspiration from the abstract nature of the music, recalling, "We went into a studio for six weeks with no songs and came out with an album".
2024 reissue on a limited edition translucent red marbled vinyl features a deluxe heavyweight sleeve, released via Music On Vinyl.
