(Blue & white marbled vinyl) Slowdive’s first compilation album captures the essence of their early shoegaze mastery.
English shoegaze band Slowdive's first compilation album Blue Day (first released in 1992) compiles the band's first three EPs: Slowdive, Morningrise and Holding Our Breath. The album features some of Slowdive's earliest recorded material, the band's earliest forrays into merging washed-out guitars with ethereal vocals from frontwoman Rachel Goswell.
The term "shoegazer" was used to describe bands that emulated My Bloody Valentine's blend of intense guitars and ethereal vocals. Slowdive toured with fellow shoegazing bands throughout the summer of 1991, but as Britpop and grunge emerged, the British music press grew increasingly critical of shoegaze.
