This limited 180gm vinyl features Lee Morgan's "The Gigolo", showcasing hard bop with tracks like "Yes I Can, No You Can't" and "You Go To My Head."
This limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing follows the success of "The Sidewinder" in 1964, as Alfred Lion continued to record trumpeter Lee Morgan in search of another hit. Although his later albums didn't achieve the same commercial success, Morgan's 1965 releases—"The Rumproller", "The Gigolo", and "Cornbread"—are among his finest. Recorded over two summer sessions, "The Gigolo" showcases Morgan with a dynamic quintet featuring Wayne Shorter on tenor saxophone, Harold Mabern on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. This confident hard bop album opens with the groovy "Yes I Can, No You Can't," includes four Morgan originals like the upbeat "Trapped" and "Speedball," and features an expansive 11-minute track titled "The Gigolo." It concludes with a stunning arrangement of the ballad "You Go To My Head," which flows with sensuality.
