(RSD essentials, blue & black vinyl) Celebrate the pioneering rulers of death metal Morbid Angel and their groundbreaking debut album with this 35th anniversary edition reissue.
Altars of Madness, the debut studio album by American death metal band Morbid Angel, set new standards for heaviness and extremity both musically and lyrically. As one of the earliest examples of death metal, it played a crucial role in shaping the genre alongside Possessed's Seven Churches and Death's Scream Bloody Gore. The album features some of the most iconic death metal tracks ever, including "Immortal Rites", "Maze of Torment", and "Chapel of Ghouls". Celebrate the pioneering rulers of death metal and their groundbreaking debut with this 35th-anniversary edition reissue.
Morbid Angel was formed in Tampa, Florida, 1983 with guitarist Trey Azagthoth, vocalist/bassist Dallas Ward, and drummer Mike Browning. Renowned for pioneering death metal with their guttural vocals, blast beats, tempo shifts, and dark atmosphere, they played a key role in the genre's evolution from its thrash metal roots. Alongside bands such as Obituary, Death, Cynic, Autopsy, and Deicide, Morbid Angel is celebrated as one of the most influential and emulated groups in death metal.
