Lorde's second album, Melodrama, is a breakup record about "heartbreak, solitude and being alone."
Gifted New Zealand singer/songwriter Lorde was still a teenager when the indelible single "Royals" and her debut album, Pure Heroine, lit up the charts worldwide in 2013 so it's not surprising that she felt the need to take a step back and process her newfound fame for a bit before embarking on album No. 2.
For good or ill, a rough breakup intervened during the interim and at least gave her some grist for the songwriting mill for what would eventually become Melodrama, finally released to pretty much universal acclaim in June of 2017. In Lorde's own words, this is "a record about being alone (and) heartbreak and solitude."
