LINGUA IGNOTA, the solo project of multidisciplinary artist Kristin Hayter, takes a bold and uncompromising approach to themes of violence and vengeance, blending brutal, emotional, and harrowing sounds. Her music exists at the intersection of power electronics, death industrial, black metal, baroque classical, spiritual minimalism, and folk. Hayter’s classical music background informs the intense and dramatic arcs in her work, with her voice as the focal point—shifting from unhinged screams to lilting soprano and powerful belting, drawing comparisons to Diamanda Galas. Known for her confrontational live performances, she often leaves audiences breathless or in tears.

Hayter began classical training at age ten with aspirations for opera, but later shifted to an interdisciplinary fine arts practice at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She continued her studies at Brown University, where her controversial thesis, titled "BURN EVERYTHING TRUST NO ONE KILL YOURSELF," birthed LINGUA IGNOTA. The project reimagines misogynistic content as violent, biblically charged anthems for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. As a survivor herself, Hayter uses her art to give a forceful voice to the unheard, silenced, and dismissed.
