(2LP) the debut Juno-nominated album from Rush's Alex Lifeson, released under the pseudonym "Victor", blends hard rock and metal with various alternative influences.
Victor, the first solo album from Alex Lifeson, the legendary guitarist of Rush, released in January 1996 under the pseudonym "Victor" on Anthem Records. This album showcases Lifeson's exploration of various musical styles, moving away from the progressive rock sound that characterized much of Rush's work. Recorded at his home studio, Lerxst Sound, between October 1994 and July 1995, Victor features Lifeson not only on guitar but also on bass and vocals.
The album includes a mix of hard rock and alternative influences, with standout tracks like "Don't Care", "Liar" and "Promise". Lifeson collaborated with several talented musicians, including drummer and co-writer Mike Baird and bassist Les Claypool, who contributed to the album's unique sound. Upon its release, Victor peaked at number 99 on the Billboard 200 and received a Juno Award nomination for Best New Group in 1997. Despite its lower profile compared to most of Rush's discography, Victor has been praised by fans for its honest songwriting and Lifeson's distinctive and creative guitar work.
2024 Reissue pressed on double vinyl includes an additonal side of bonus tracks, released via Anthem Records.
