Laufey's debut EP Typical Of Me was an underground sensation mostly written in the singer's dorm room at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Icelandic pop-jazz songstress Laufey was already a two-time reality-show runner-up who'd come close to winning on both Iceland's Got Talent in 2014 and The Voice Island in 2015 when she departed for the States to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, but her big "win" would eventually come in her dorm room.
Laufey wrote most of her debut EP, Typical Of Me, in her university residence room and recorded it with a classmate named Davin Kingston before she graduated from Berklee in 2021. It was originally a self-released offering, but drew so much acclaim and unexpected attention from the fringes of the mainstream that it quickly got scooped up for re-release by AWAL Entertainment. The young singer recorded Typical Of Me with the stated intention of making jazz more accessible to young audiences and ... hey ... y'all know where Laufey stands today. She's doing alright. So: mission accomplished.
