King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, the most prolific band in modern rock and roll are back with their 26th album, the band's return to their blues rock roots has been met with much acclaim from fans and critics.
Australian multi-genre maestros King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are back with their 26th album Flight B741, a vibrant return to their blues rock and boogie roots. Flight B741 represents a significant moment in the band’s career, as it’s their first release under their new label, P(Do0m) Records, which they established following the release of their 25th album, The Silver Cord.
Flight B741 emerged from the band’s spontaneous jam sessions, channeling a bluesy style reminiscent of their 2019 album Fishing for Fishies. Lead vocalist Stu Mackenzie described Flight B741 as a record that, despite having fun and upbeat energy, touches on deep and often heavy themes. "It’s not a sci-fi record, it’s more about life" Mackenzie shared, emphasizing how the album feels like a fun weekend with friends despite its more profound reflections.
What makes Flight B741 stand out is the band’s collaborative spirit during its creation. Each member actively contributed songs and ideas, resulting in a more democratic process. Mackenzie revealed that the band was eager to have multiple lead vocalists, with each member passing the mic as they took turns leading different parts of the songs. This spontaneous, collective approach shapes the album’s dynamic feel.
Released via (P)Doom Records in 2024.
