Jungle's fourth album, Volcano, is less like the molten cataract of the title than a warm summer breeze wafting in over a tropical beach. And that's juuuust fine.
The music made by the U.K. duo of Tom McFarland and Josh Lloyd-Watson has always been thoroughly easy to digest and they don't mess with the formula too much here. They drop a few more guest vocalists into the mix -- Erick the Architect on "Candle Flame," Channel Tres on "I've Been In Love," Mood Talk on "Don't Play" and ace British MC Roots Manuva on "You Ain't No Celebrity," for instance -- and indulge their love of classic soul more than ever and flirt with hip-hop to an increasing degree, yes, but it still sounds as smooth and effortlessly groovy as the Jungle we've come to know and love. If ain't broke, don't fix it.
