The Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition of Thad Jone's hard bop masterpiece returns to vinyl, mastered by Kevin Gray using the original mixes.
The Magnificent Thad Jones pushes the art form of small group hard bop jazz recordings to its absolute limits. Recorded at the heralded Van Gelder studio in the summer of 1956 and released via Blue Note later in 1956. The album features a phenomenal band consisting of Thad Jones on the trumpet of course, Billy Mitchell on tenor saxophone, Barry Harris on piano, Percy Heath on bass and Max Roach on drums.
The album comprises of two original compositions by Thad Jones "Billie-Doo" and "Thedia", an astounding rendition of April in Paris, the superb ballad “If Someone Had Told Me" and the Peter DeRose and Charles Tobias penned classic "If Someone Had Told Me".
2024 reissue on 180g vinyl released via Blue Note Classic Vinyl series.
