(Hot fluorescent pink vinyl) Paris Hilton's debut album fuses eclectic influences from reggae to electro-pop into a 2000s pop lover's delight, filled with catchy melodies and irresistible hooks.
Paris, the debut studio album from American media personality and singer Paris Hilton, burst onto the scene on August 14, 2006, under Warner Music. In a bold move for the mid-2000s digital age, the entire album was made available for streaming on AOL Music just eight days before its physical release. After signing with Warner in 2005, Hilton initially collaborated with producer Rob Cavallo but shifted the album's musical direction after working with Scott Storch, embracing a hip-hop and R&B influence. She also teamed up with an array of other talented producers, including Fernando Garibay, J.R. Rotem, Dr. Luke, and Greg Wells, resulting in a pop album enriched with elements of hip-hop, R&B, reggae, soul and even rock.
Upon its release, Paris debuted at number six on the US Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 77,000 copies. As of October 2013, the album has sold 198,000 copies in the United States and over 600,000 copies worldwide. The album spawned three singles, with "Stars Are Blind" leading the charge on June 5, 2006, receiving critical acclaim and peaking at number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it enjoyed a 12-week run. The second single, "Turn It Up", soared to the top of the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, while the third single, "Nothing in This World" peaked at number 12 on the same chart, solidifying Hilton’s place in the pop landscape of the mid-2000s.
