Recorded in 1971, In Search Of Space represents Hawkwind’s first masterpiece, showcasing classic tracks like "You Shouldn't Do That", "Master of the Universe", and "We Took the Wrong Step Years Ago". The album saw Hawkwind fully embrace their distinctive space rock style and was met with acclaim upon its October 1971 release, becoming the band’s first Top 20 hit.

Hawkwind is an English rock band formed in November 1969, the group is widely recognized as a pioneer of space rock. Space rock is a rock subgenre that emerged in the late 60s, fusing long avant-garde song structures with minimal drumming and extensive use of synthesizers.

Over the years, the band has evolved through numerous lineups (including Lemmy and Ginger Baker) and has incorporated various styles into their music, including hard rock, progressive rock, and psychedelic rock. They are also noted as an influential proto-punk group.

2024 reissue released via Atomhenge includes the fully remastered album cut from the original tapes at Abbey Road Studios and a faithful recreation of the original gatefold packaging.
