Primarily known as a songwriter, Margo Guryan signed with Bell Records as an artist in the late 60s and recorded her only album, Take a Picture in 1968. The album features light, jazz-inflected pop melodies and was produced by John Hill, John Simon, and David Rosner. The band on the album includes Hill on guitar, Kirk Hamilton on flute and bass, Phil Bodner on oboe, Paul Griffin on keyboards, and Buddy Saltzman on drums.

John Simon produced and arranged "Don't Go Away" before departing to work with Janis Joplin. Simon had previously crafted an arrangement of "Think of Rain" for The Cyrkle, which included elements of Bach’s "Air on the G String", inspiring Guryan to write "Someone I Know".

Disillusioned by the demands of touring and having been married to a jazz musician, Guryan chose not to perform live. She expressed frustration with the control exerted by managers and agents, stating she did not want to be dictated to by others. Consequently, the label reduced its promotion of the album. Guryan withdrew from performing but continued as a writer for April-Blackwood and collaborated with Rosner in producing records for other artists.
