(Indie exclusive, blue vinyl) rejoice Deadheads! The Grateful Dead's disco flavoured 1978 masterwork returns to vinyl!
The tenth studio album by American rock band Grateful Dead Shakedown Street features production from Little Feat frontman Lowell George and John Kahn. The album is colloquially known as the Grateful Dead's disco album.
After the Grateful Dead's 1974–1976 hiatus, the band started practicing in an old warehouse. Frontman Jerry Garcia suggested that the band should install recording equipment in the warehouse and start work on a new album. Garcia felt inspired by the Bee Gees and other disco artists of the late seventies.
Shakedown Street was the last Grateful Dead album to include keyboardist Keith Godchaux and vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux. The album received poor sales upon its release but over the years many of the album's tracks have gained a cult following especially the title track, "Fire On The Mountain" and "Stagger Lee". All of which became staples in the Grateful Dead's live shows.
2024 reissue on an indie exclusive blue vinyl, released via the Rhino Entertainment Company.
