Canadian icon Nelly Furtado's debut album arrives on vinyl for the first time! The double-platinum album originally released in 2000 features the Grammy nominated single "I'm Like A Bird"
Nelly Furtado’s debut album, Whoa, Nelly!, launched on October 24, 2000, with a vibrant mix of pop, folk, R&B, and bossa nova influences. Critics hailed its eclectic sound, with Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic noting the album's unique genre fusion. The record produced four hit singles, including the Grammy-winning "I'm Like a Bird," and reached number twenty-four on the US Billboard 200, achieving double-platinum status in the U.S. by January 2002.
Furtado’s distinctive vocal style, characterized by rapid scatting and emotional delivery, captivated audiences and earned praise from Slant and Rolling Stone, the latter calling it a “wild-ass pop go-go.” After its release, she toured with Moby and headlined the Burn in the Spotlight Tour, connecting with fans and expanding her influence. The album garnered four nominations at the 44th Annual Grammy Awards, including Best Pop Vocal Album.
Whoa, Nelly! not only marked Furtado’s career debut but also attracted the attention of producer Timbaland, paving the way for innovative future collaborations. This album remains a significant milestone in early 21st-century music, celebrated for its genre-defying sound and cultural influences.
