Ariana Grande finally released her seventh album, Eternal Sunshine, in 2024 after taking some time off to star in the film version of the musical Wicked.
Ariana Grande has released records at a ferocious pace since Yours Truly landed in 2013, but there was an unusually long four-year gap between 2020's Positions and Eternal Sunshine.
Turns out Grande had a good excuse: she was shooting the hit 2024 film version of the musical Wicked, in which she re-indulges her acting roots as Glinda the Good Witch. And the time away from her pop career apparently didn't hurt her at all because Eternal Sunshine -- yes, the title was inspired by Michel Gondry's classic sci-fi romance Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind so you can work with that thought in mind thematically as you listen -- became her sixth Billboard No. 1 album in the U.S. and topped the charts in 14 countries in total. With Swedish songwriting god Max Martin at her side, the thing was bound to succeed but few Ariana Grande singles have sparkled quite as much as the disco-house banger "Yes, And?" and it's hard to hate on a record that features her own grandmother on a track. Call it a comeback but it's not like she ever went away.
