Duran Duran's new wave tour de force, the album that spent 129 weeks on the Billboard 200 returns to vinyl.
Duran Durans monumental second album Rio spearheaded the Second British Invasion with iconic singles like "Hungry Like the Wolf", "Save a Prayer" and the title track. Produced by Colin Thurston, the album is far more experimental than the band's debut 1981 album with extensive use of additional sound effects like cracking ice cubes and cigarette lighters.
Rio is predominantly a new wave/synth-pop album with influences from funk and disco. The funk influence can be especially heard in John Taylor's syncopated driving bass lines. Most of the songs on Rio are fast dance songs with a few synth-driven ballads like the single "Save a Prayer".
This 2024 reissue of the 2009 Abbey Road remaster includes the original 50's cigarette packaging inspired sleeve design by Malcolm Garrett, released via Parlophone.
