(Sea blue vinyl, indie exclusive) the sixth album from American soft rock band The Doobie Brothers contains some of the band's biggest hits, "Takin' It To The Streets", "It Keeps You Runnin'" and "Wheels Of Fortune".
Takin' It to the Streets, the sixth studio album by American rock band The Doobie Brothers, released on March 19, 1976, features a far more soulful sound than any of The Doobie Brothers' previous releases. Takin' It to the Streets marked the first appearance of Michael McDonald as the lead vocalist.
By late 1974, the band's rigorous touring schedule was beginning to take a toll, particularly on the band's leader, Tom Johnston. Johnston's condition worsened during the Stampede tour when he was diagnosed with stomach ulcers, leading to several cancelled shows.
With Johnston's reduced involvement, the band considered disbanding. However, while in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jeff Baxter suggested reaching out to his friend Michael McDonald, who was between gigs and living in a garage apartment at the time. Initially hesitant, McDonald felt he might not be what they were looking for, as they needed someone skilled in playing Hammond B-3 organ and keyboards, while he saw himself primarily as a songwriter and pianist. Nonetheless, McDonald agreed to join, and he met the band at the Le Pavillon Hotel in New Orleans. They moved into a warehouse for a two-day rehearsal, and McDonald was surprised when he was later invited to join them in the studio to work on their upcoming album.
Pressed on an indie exclusive sea blue vinyl, released via Warner Music in 2024.
