The third album by British rock band by Dire Straits features iconic tracks like "Romeo and Juliet" and "Tunnel of Love". This remastered edition, crafted by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios offers enhanced clarity and stereo imaging.
Making Movies, released in October 1980, the third studio album by British rock band Dire Straits blends cinematic storytelling with Dire Straits' signature fusions of rock with folk and jazz. Mark Knopfler’s songwriting shines, especially on the standout singles “Romeo and Juliet" and “Tunnel of Love" which later appeared in An Officer and a Gentleman.
Recorded at New York's Power Station with producer Jimmy Iovine, known for his work with Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith, the album features E-Street Band keyboardist Roy Bittan. During recording, rhythm guitarist and Mark's brother David Knopfler departed after creative clashes, leading Mark Knopfler to re-record many of David’s parts. The album’s sessions also generated several unreleased tracks, including the title track “Making Movies” and “Suicide Towers". Upon release, Making Movies was both a critical and commercial success, with Rolling Stone describing it as a record where Dire Straits fully came into their own. With chart-topping spots in Italy and Norway, platinum status in the U.S., and double-platinum in the U.K., Making Movies became a pivotal work, further establishing Dire Straits as a global rock powerhouse.
