Ta13oo (stylized as TA13OO and pronounced Taboo) American Rapper Denzel Curry's third studio album, released on July 27, 2018, through PH Recordings and distributed by Loma Vista Recordings. Following his 2016 album Imperial and 2017's 13 EP, Curry delves into deeply personal and societal issues on Ta13oo, rapping about trauma, politics, fame, and paranoia. The album includes a slew of excellent features from Twelve'len, GoldLink, JID, JPEGMafia, ZillaKami and Billie Eilish.
The album is structured into three acts, each reflecting Curry's shifting mental states, from darkness to light. In a Zane Lowe interview, Curry explained that he worked on the darker sections during a challenging time in his life, gradually moving toward happiness as the album progressed.
Singles like "Sumo", "Percs" and "Clout Cobain" highlight Curry’s unique sound, blending aggressive beats with introspective lyricism. Ta13oo garnered critical acclaim, with outlets like HipHopDX praising Curry’s ability to balance sonic innovation with meaningful content. Pitchfork noted how his personal storytelling sets him apart from his peers, while Pretty Much Amazing called it one of the year’s most atmospheric hip-hop releases.
Curry’s career began in South Florida’s underground scene, where his early work, influenced by both hardcore rap and experimental sounds, helped establish him as a dynamic force in hip-hop. With Ta13oo, he cemented his reputation as an artist unafraid to explore both the chaotic and vulnerable aspects of his life.
2024 reissue pressed on double 180g metallic marble vinyl, released via Vinyl Me, Please.
