Coldplay's tenth album features some of the band's most concise and conscious songwriting.
The tenth album from British rock band Coldplay, Moon Music (full title: Music of the Spheres Vol. II: Moon Music), pushes the boundaries of what the band is capable of. Court documents released before the album's launch reveal that Parlophone negotiated a £35 million budget advance with Coldplay, setting a new record for the highest advance ever given for an album. This funding covered expenses such as clearing samples, arranging recording sessions, hiring producers, and running promotional campaigns.
Moon Music sees the band reuniting with Swedish superproducer Max Martin. The album's pre-release marketing has generated significant excitement. Coldplay have announced several sustainable production practices for Moon Music. According to a press release from the band, "This will be the world’s first album released as a 140g EcoRecord rPET LP, with each copy containing nine recycled PET-plastic bottles recovered from post-consumer waste. This initiative will prevent the use of more than 25 metric tonnes of virgin plastic and achieve an 85% reduction in manufacturing process CO2 emissions per kilogram compared to traditional 140g vinyl."
Pressed on translucent red eco vinyl and released via Warner Music in 2024.
