First released as a double CD in 2002, "Moon’s Milk (In Four Phases)" compiles four seasonal EPs that Coil released in 1998 through their Eskaton label. The sessions featured John Balance, Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson, Drew McDowall, and William Breeze, recorded at their Chiswick, London studio just before they relocated to Weston-Super-Mare. Though long considered a pivotal work in Coil's catalog, the collection has never been reissued or repressed on vinyl, and time has only deepened its mysterious allure.

Arranged to correspond with the equinoxes and solstices, "Moon's Milk" showcases Coil at a transformative moment, embracing improvisation and sound design. "Moon's Milk or Under an Unquiet Skull" begins the "Spring Equinox" phase, a two-part organ séance filled with drones, haunting keys, seasick strings, and a narcotic undertow. The "Summer Solstice" moves toward lighter, yet equally spellbinding tracks, with Balance using his voice in various forms, from dreamlike torch songs in "Bee Stings" to sultry chamber pieces like "Summer Substructures."

The "Autumn Equinox" phase adopts a more somber, twilight tone, with tracks like Rose McDowall’s neofolk ballad "Rosa Decidua" and the eerie "Amethyst Deceivers," featuring alien guitar by Breeze and a memorable couplet from Balance: "Pay your respects to the vultures / For they are your future." The "Winter Solstice" finale is the most remote and ceremonial, beginning with "A White Rainbow," a haunting blend of strings and choral vocals. "North" and "Magnetic North" offer bleak, ghostly meditations, while the suite concludes with an eerie version of the traditional carol "Christmas Is Now Drawing Near," sung by McDowall.

The Dais box set includes the rare "Moon’s Milk Bonus Disc" from the 2019 "Threshold Archives Copal""Moon’s Milk (In Four Phases)" is a 2002 double CD by Coil, featuring seasonal EPs of experimental, improvised soundscapes, blending industrial, folk, and ritualistic music. CD, featuring collaborations with Thighpaulsandra. This material, rich in electro-acoustic rituals and dissonant electronic poetry, further expands Coil’s vast, mysterious sound world, blending post-industrial elements with an art that transcends categorization.
