Patrick Flegel, former guitarist and lead singer for the short-lived but much-admired Calgary noise-rock outfit Women, has been recording and performing under the alias Cindy Lee for more than a decade to much cultish adoration, smatterings of critical praise here and there and even a spot on the 2020 Polaris Music Prize long list in their native Canada for the Karen Carpenter-obsessed What's Tonight To Eternity? LP.

Diamond Jubilee is a bona fide outta-nowhere sleeper hit, though. A 32-track, triple-LP confessional psych-pop opus clocking in at more than two hours, this beguilingly weird and woozy epic was originally made available only as a $30 digital download via Cindy Lee's own website. This didn't stop the record from creating a genuine tizzy amongst the music press, with publications the world over falling over themselves in a rush to praise its girl-group-infatuated lo-fi genius. Diamond Jubilee eventually wound up shortlisted for the 2024 Polaris Prize and was named the No. 1 album of the year by such publications as Exclaim!, Gorilla Vs. Bear and Pitchfork. And all of this without any physical product to pop on the turntable or in the CD player, let alone an easy-to-access online stream.

All of that is about to change, however. On Feb. 25, Diamond Jubilee will be released via the San Francisco label Superior Viaduct and ... well, vinyl-lovin' Cindy Lee fans, your prayers have been answered: we at Kop's Records are offering pre-orders of the record for the highly reasonable price of $79.99. That means you'll have some bucks left over for your favourite intoxicant when you finally get to settle back and experience this wild and wonderful ride the way we suspect it was meant to be experienced.
