Forget the "Summer of Brat." For Charli XCX, 2024 was the YEAR of Brat.
Charli XCX reached back to her teenage days performing in illegal raves around and about London as inspiration for the harder-edged and altogether club-friendly dance-pop found on her smashing sixth album and was rewarded with the most commercially and critically successful record of her career.
The teaser single "Von Dutch," unleashed upon the public to much excitement in January of 2024, turned out to be no tease at all: Brat on the whole lived up to that bangin' tune's promise upon its release in June, leading many to dub the months that followed the "Summer of Brat." U.S. presidential candidate Kamala Harris would even adopt the album's instantly iconic, neon-green artwork for her campaign. Which didn't work out for her, no, but helped turn Brat into something of a cultural phenomenon.
It wasn't just the Summer of Brat, either. Judging by the sheer number of "best of" lists topped by Charli XCX at the end of 2024, it was the Year of Brat. Review aggregator Metacritic affirmed it was the best-reviewed album of the year and -- wait for it -- the 16th best-reviewed album ever on the site. Advantage: Charli.
TRACKLISTING:
Brat has become an international phenomenon in a very short amount of time. The album that sent Charli XCX to a new level of pop stardom contains influences from mid-2000s rave music, hyper-pop and experimental art-pop. But 'Brat' isn't just a brash party album but an album that balances its more hedonistic impulses with a healthy dose of emotional vulnerability and depth.
One of the most critically acclaimed and fastest-selling releases of 2024 thus far. Brat's multitude of producers include A.G. Cook, Easyfun, Cirkut, George Daniel and Charli herself. The album contains the genre-defining hits "Club Classics, "360" and "Von Dutch".
Released via Atlantic Records on a limited edition black ice vinyl.
