Former teen star Sabrina Carpenter grows up on 2022's Emails I Can't Send, paving the way towards the world pop domination to come two years later with Short 'N' Sweet

In stock

Onetime child actress Sabrina Carpenter spent her teenage years making four albums of fun, disposable pop music for Disney's Hollywood Records imprint, but once she'd crested her 20s and switched labels to Island Records in 2021 she definitely felt the urge to "mature" a little bit.

Emails I Can't Send found its lyrical focus in exactly those: emails that Carpenter sent to herself during the late-night soul-searching and slow self-healing that followed of a painful breakup but didn't dare share with others. And if that approach to songwriting reflected a bit of growing up as a lyricist on her part, the music grew up along with her. Tempos are slower, things get folky in the Folklore/Evermore-era Taylor Swift vein and the whole affair is generally sparer and less glossy than the garish kiddie-pop that came before. As a result, Emails I Can't Send turned up on a few "serious" critics' year-end "best of" lists and singles like "Skinny Dipping," "Nonsense" and "Feather" made international chart appearances by appealing to a broader audience than ever before. Thus setting the stage for the global superstardom to come with "Espresso" and the album Short 'N' Sweet in 2024.

Did we mention Carpenter came to visit Kop's Records' Queen Street location last time she was in town? As far as we're concerned, she's family now.

Sabrina Carpenter's fifth album "Emails I Can't Send" is her most ambitious. Her first album under Island Records is part concept album and part '90s dance pop. It was rated one of the best albums of 2022 by both Rolling Stone and Billboard. The album features the singles "Skinny Dipping", "Vicious", "Nonsense" and "Fast Times".

Released via Island Records on a bone colored vinyl.
