Yes, Maria Carey's Merry Christmas is the album with "All I Want For Christmas Is You" on it. On festive red vinyl!
Say what you will about Christmas albums, but they don't come much bigger than this one.
Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas has sold more than 18 million copies since it was released in October of 1994, with most of those sales traceable to a certain utterly monstrous holiday single by the name of "All I Want For Christmas Is You." That tune ain't goin' anywhere, folks. It's an undeniably infectious little girl-group homage and continues to rise to the top of the charts year in and year out and it's become a holiday standard up there with Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" and Gene Autry's "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" so what are you gonna do? Fight it? Just give in.
The rest of Carey's Merry Christmas is actually quite traditional and heavy on gospel vibes, although her own "Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)" and a sprightly version of Phil Spector's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" help leaven the church-y mood every so often. We all know the song everyone's after here, though, and that's what makes the record a keeper. It will outlive all of us.
