Boublil, Alain & Claude-Michel Scho*Les Misérables*, often referred to as *Les Mis* or *Les Miz*, is a sung-through musical with music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, and a book by Schönberg and Boublil. Adapted from Victor Hugo's 1862 novel, the story unfolds in early 19th-century France and follows Jean Valjean, a former prisoner seeking redemption after serving a 19-year sentence for stealing bread to feed his sister's starving child. Inspired by an act of mercy from a bishop, Valjean breaks his parole, changes his identity, builds a prosperous life, and adopts an orphan named Cosette. However, he is relentlessly pursued by the police inspector Javert, who is obsessed with bringing him to justice. The tale reaches a crescendo during a period of political upheaval, where young idealists clash with the government on the barricades in Paris.
