"Sex and Violence," KRS-One's final BDP album, returns on exclusive 2LP purple marbled vinyl with full lyrics and artwork by Robert Williams.
Exclusive 2LP Purple Marbled Vinyl
In the early 1990s, gangsta rap was rising in popularity, but KRS-One stayed true to socially conscious rap with his 1992 album "Sex and Violence," the fifth and final release under the Boogie Down Productions name. Produced by KRS-One, Pal Joey, Kenny Parker, D-Square, and Prince Paul, the album delves into the darker aspects of American urban life and psyche, with KRS-One as the narrator. While singles like the hard-hitting "Duck Down" and funky "We In There" drew attention, deeper tracks like the historical "Drug Dealer," "Ruff Ruff" featuring Freddie Foxxx (aka Bumpy Knuckles), the groovy "Questions and Answers," and the industry-critical "How Not to Get Jerked" stand out.
The album opens with a skit where KRS-One, playing a DJ in panic, desperately needs vinyl, a format soon to be overtaken by cassettes and CDs. Now, 32 years later, vinyl DJs and Hip-Hop collectors no longer need to panic. In partnership with Sony Music's CERTIFIED, Get On Down proudly reissues this underrated BDP classic. Featuring artwork by Robert Williams, "Sex and Violence" is available on colored vinyl and comes in a gatefold jacket with full lyrics.
