American rap group Boogie Down Productions criminally underrated Criminal Minded released at a time when the group was embroiled in a bitter conflict with fellow NYC rapper MC Shan. The feud eventually led to the murder of the group's producer Scott La Rock.
Criminal Minded is one of the first gangster rap albums, it set the foundations for the genre that allowed groups like the Wu-Tang Clan and NWA to flourish. The album features MC KRS-One's aggressive yet thoughtful bars with uncompromising minimalist production from Pete La Rock, the album's songs detail the harsh realities of living in the South Bronx.
2024 reissue on double black vinyl released via Phase One Records.
