(Expanded Edition) Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of one of the most intriguing and influential albums in all of electronic music, this Expanded Edition reissue includes all songs from all of the previous versions of the album on vinyl for the first time.
Selected Ambient Works Volume II the second album from British producer Aphex Twin (Richard David James), released on March 7, 1994, through Warp Records, marked a shift from his earlier work, Selected Ambient Works 85–92, by focusing entirely on ambient soundscapes without the techno beats. Inspired by lucid dreaming and synesthesia, James crafted lengthy, atmospheric compositions with minimal percussion, evoking a surreal, dreamlike experience. The album debuted at No. 1 on the UK Dance Albums Chart and No. 11 on the UK Albums Chart and later earned a place in several "Best of the '90s" lists, including Rolling Stone and Spin.
Many modern critics, including Pitchfork, rank the album as one of the greatest ambient albums of all time, crediting its pioneering influence on artists like Radiohead and the evolution of electronic music. Notable for its use of microtonal tunings and dark ambient tones, the album brought a foreboding, isolationist vibe to the ambient genre, drawing comparisons to Brian Eno and John Cage.
2024 30th Anniversary Expanded Edition reissue pressed on four LPs, includes all songs from all other versions of the album on vinyl for the first time, a fold-out poster, sticker sheet and a booklet featuring development sketches of the original artwork, released via Warp Records.
