This compilation collects influential Jamaican singer Horace Andy's best songs from 1977-1980, some of the most creative and boundary-pushing years of the singer's decades-long career.
In 1977, Jamaican singer Horace Andy relocated to Hartford, Connecticut, with his first wife, Claudette. There, he worked with producer Everton DaSilva, recording the In The Light album and its accompanying dub album, as well as singles like "Do You Love My Music" and "Government Land". Andy also established his label called Rhythm, which became a platform for his collaborations with DaSilva. This partnership was tragically cut short when DaSilva was murdered in 1979.
Andy’s 1978 album Pure Ranking had already foreshadowed the emergence of dancehall reggae, and he played a pivotal role in the genre's early development. Horace Andy's influences on Jamaican music are almost immeasurable, he has become of the most respected and influential singers in the history of Jamaican music.
